How to Secure Your Outside Mount Window Blinds

Posted on | March 8, 2015 | Comments Off

Outside mount blinds are perfect for windows that have no window depth or has a little of it. Because of such, less flat space is needed for outside mount blinds.

Doing some repairs on blinds sounds a complex task to some homeowners, but if you learn how to mount these outside blinds, the task will become a breeze. Basically, the window blinds are installed on the exterior opening of the window which is linked to the window frame. For a detailed guide in installing your outside blinds, follow the steps bellow.

Step 1: Measure Your Window’s Outer Border

Using a tape measure and a pencil, measure the width of the window’s exterior edges starting from the top frame, to the middle and then down the bottom area. Take note of each measurement on paper.

Fit blinds into your window’s frame and then measure again the size of the frame from side to side. For uniformity, round off your measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch.

Step 2: Measure the Height and the Dimensions of the Window

Measure the height of your window’s outside border along the middle and then to the left and right sides. Note all measurements and find out which part requires more length of the blinds. And then finally, on the top part of the window frame, place the blinds. Get the outside mount dimension that is intended for your window blinds. For many types of blinds, about an inch and half overlap along each side is necessary, so around three inches should be added to the recorded measurement.

Step 3: Install the Window Blinds

Placing the blind brackets into the window is often the most tricky task in fixing the blinds up. Then lengthen the mount blinds. Measure the blinds’ dimensions and check if it will perfectly fit your window. Two inches or the exact measurement of the frame which the brackets are attached should be added to the recorded measurements.

Always remember, when installing outside mount window blinds, there’s a need to add up a little extra width and height to your window blinds. Adding extra measurements will provide you with a perfectly well-covered window. Another thing to remember about outside mount blinds is to only purchase window blinds which can sit close enough to the surface wall so less amount of light will enter a given area in your house.
